Play Yards Guide

Play Yards Guide

Play yards, formerly known as playpens, are great to use for travel or for your home. They provide your baby with comfortable and secure place to play or sleep while you keep a watchful eye. They can be used both indoor and outdoor making them useful for multiple purposes. Many of the newer models have mobiles, changing tables, and canopies included. Follow safety tips and guide to ensure you are getting the most from the play yard you choose.

Use

Playtime: If you plan on using your play yard for playtime a basic model will be the best fit. If you plan to use your play yard outdoors consider selecting a model with a canopy.

Portable Crib: If you plan to use your play yard as a portable crib consider one with options like a changing table and bassinet. It is also very convenient to have these features if your play yard will be far from your baby’s nursery to make a diaper change quick and easy.

Travelling: If you plan to use the play yard while you travel make sure to choose one which is lightweight. It is also important to consider how easy the play yard is to pack up.

Play Yard Safety Tips: Always make sure that the drop sides are locked in the upright position before placing your baby inside. Do not place any large toys, boxes, etc inside the play yard because your child may be able to climb out. Never leave your child unattended in a play yard. Do not use the play yard if the mesh sides are torn or have holes in them. Make sure to read the manufacturers guide for weight and height limits for the various features of the play yard. Do not tie or hang any strings of toys across the top of the play yard. Make sure to use the safety harness when using the changing table on the play yard. Make sure the changing table is flipped to the outside of the play yard while your child is inside. Do not place the play yard in an area when your baby can reach out and grab cords or near any heat sources like a fireplace or stove.
